The short version

We collect what you type into our contact form, and — if you agree to it — a record of which advert or link brought you here. That is all. We run no analytics, we have no third-party trackers on this site, and we do not sell or share anything about you with anyone.

What we collect

When you contact us. Your name, email address, company if you give one, what you tell us about your problem, and when you need it done. If you subscribe to the writing, just your email address.

Alongside that. The page you sent it from, how many pages you looked at, your browser's user-agent string, your IP address and the country it resolves to. The IP address is kept so we can recognise a pattern if we start getting spam.

If you accept cookies. Which advert, campaign or link brought you to the site, including the click identifier that Google, Meta, LinkedIn or similar adds to the address when you click one of their ads. This is stored on your device and only sent to us if you then send us a message. See the cookie notice for exactly what is stored.

If you refuse cookies, none of that is recorded and the form still works normally.

Why we collect it

To answer you. That is the whole reason for the contact form.

The campaign information tells us which of the things we do to find clients actually works, so we stop paying for the ones that do not. It is not used to build a profile of you, and it goes no further than us.

How long we keep it

Enquiries: 24 months from your last contact with us, so we can pick up a conversation you started last year. Longer if you become a client, because we need the record.

Campaign cookies on your device: 90 days.

Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe.

Who else touches it

Three companies, each doing one job:

Netlify hosts the site and serves these pages. Supabase stores the content and your message. Resend delivers the notification email telling us you got in touch. All three hold data in the United States.

We deliberately keep that list short. The typeface on this site is served from our own server rather than Google's, so Google is not told that you visited. There is no analytics provider, no advertising pixel, and no chat widget.

Your rights

Ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email hello@artisanalsoftware.dev and we will do it — normally the same week, and without asking why.

If you are in California, that includes the right to know what we collect and to opt out of any sale or sharing of it. We do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of, but the right stands.

If you are in the UK or the EU, you also have the right to object to processing, to receive your data in a portable form, and to complain to your national data protection authority if you are not satisfied with how we have handled it.

Changes and contact

If we start using an analytics or advertising tool, this notice and the cookie notice will say so before it goes live, and the cookie banner will ask you again.

Questions, or anything you want removed: hello@artisanalsoftware.dev.

Thirty minutes on a call. We will tell you what it takes, what it costs, and whether you should build it at all.
